Supercomputers have always been around. IBM has come up with a supercomputer like no other. It will cut down the time it takes to do any human job. The petaflop can operate at speeds up to trillions per second. What is this petaflop a measurement of the capacity of storage along with memory. Basically the speed in which calculations can be made.Supercomputers are mostly used for security and to help the world compete globally with technology. Computer have come so far in my time. Fifty years from now they feel PC's will have the just as much memory.
It is also said that with billion of people armed with calculators it with take them decades to accomplish a supercomputer days work. "Employees and management see the performance review as a neccesary evil." (Performance Reviews are a Endangered Species) IBM is relesesing the Sequoia Supercomputer later this year.

I had never heard of the petaflop. That is a strange name for a computer.
ReplyDelete"The new supercomputer will operate at speeds exceeding 20 petaflops, which is about twenty thousand trillion calculations per second"
That kind of speed is mind blowing....
If only I could only get my 5 year old Compaq to perform half of that I would be happy!
